Short Bio

Helene Tenzer earned a diploma in International Cultural and Business Studies (Dipl. Kulturwirtin) and a PhD in Intercultural Communication from the University of Passau. She spent an academic year at the University of South Alabama in Mobile and did research at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Her studies were supported by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), the Bavarian Excellence Programs (Bayerische Begabtenförderung, Bayerische Eliteförderung) and the Hansen Foundation. She recently received research grants from the Robert Bosch Foundation, the DAAD and Tübingen University. Helene Tenzer gives lectures and case study courses on Global Strategy and International Business and teaches seminars on research methodology at B.Sc. and M.Sc. level.

Research Interests



Helene Tenzer studies the impact of language barriers on international business, multinational teams and leadership in multinational organizations. Specific topics include the influence of language on knowledge processing, trust building, and power relations in multinational teams, language-based choice of communication media in virtual collaboration or leadership strategies to manage emotions in a multilingual workforce. The overall goal of her studies is to extend international business and organizational behavior theory to multilingual contexts. Helene Tenzer’s research interests furthermore include corporate entrepreneurship and innovation management. In this area, she focuses on the psychological foundations of creative deviance and its impact on creative performance. Her work has been published in journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of World Business and Management International Review.
